Tourism Management

This program is a state-level first-rated undergraduate program, aiming at cultivating and delivering interdisciplinary talents with strong professional knowledge, occupational capabilities and growth potential to China’s tourism and leisure industry. A “three-phase, four-capability, two-way interaction” training model unique to itself has been formed, i.e., dividing the learning process into professional foundation phase, orientation expansion phase and professional development phase, all meant to foster the learning, research, employment and development capabilities of students and fully carry out the two-way interaction between teachers and students, school and industry and domestic business and overseas ones in a way that fully demonstrates the international and industry-oriented school-running characteristics. This program has been accredited by UN Tourism Tedqual, which means student can transfer credits to or from other Tedqual accredited university programs such as Tourism Management University Macao, Johnson & Wales University USA etc.

The main courses include but not limited to advanced mathematics, principles of management, microeconomics, macroeconomics, principles of tourism, tourism geography, organizational behavior, tourism culture, economic law, principles of accounting, principles of big data analysis, management information system, financial management, human resources management, tourism marketing, hotel management, travel agency management, tourism planning, introduction to leisure science, and introduction to convention and exhibition etc.

Employment orientations: mainly tourism administration departments, consultancies, training institutes, high-star-rated hotels, travel agencies, event planning companies, online travel agencies (OTA) and scenic spots and tourist attractions.

 

Convention-Exhibition Economy and Management

Shanghai Normal University is one of the two oldest institutions in China to offer the undergraduate program of convention-exhibition economy and management, also the first institution in China to conduct events management education. This program, delivered in a project-driven manner, aims at cultivating application-oriented, interdisciplinary professionals who are both morally and professionally accomplished, suitable for China’s events industry and Shanghai’s socioeconomic development, familiar with relevant guidelines, policies and regulations regarding the events industry, knowledgeable about international events industry practice, fully proficient in theories, methods and skills regarding event organization and exhibition company management, highly capable of innovation, bilingual expression and interpersonal communications and competent for planning and organization of events like various conferences, exhibitions, incentive tours and special festivals, operation and management of exhibition companies and relevant activities. This program has been accredited by UN Tourism Tedqual as well, which means student can transfer credits to or from other Tedqual accredited university programs.

Main courses: on the basis of business administration knowledge module, specialized courses are offered, including but not limited to introduction to convention and exhibition, festival and special event planning and management, conference planning and management, exhibition planning and management, incentive travel planning and management, corporate event planning and management, wedding planning and organization, exhibition participation practice, events marketing, DMC operation and management, convention and exhibition financing, display design and setup.

Employment orientations: relevant government departments, major convention and exhibition companies (including conference companies, exhibition companies, display design companies, etc), high-star-rated hotels, tourism companies, and marketing departments or incentive travel departments of other companies.

 

Hotel Management

This program closely fits into the dynamics of national strategy and industry development, dedicated to cultivating professionals featuring “solid theoretical knowledge, knowledge-practice integration and technological innovation” in the ever-changing era of business world. Students should have ideas about operation and management of modern high-star-rated hotels, theoretical knowledge of specialized management, proficient service and practical capabilities, and the ability of innovative application of information technology in hotel management. This program aims at cultivating intermediate and senior application-oriented management professionals who master the occupational skills in hotel operation and management, have good potential of coordination and management and are capable to engage in operation management and reception services.

Main courses: macroeconomics, microeconomics, management, accounting, statistics, tourism e-commerce, financial management, hotel marketing, organizational behavior, service marketing and quality of service, hotel human resources management, hotel operation and management, wellness lodging industry research, hotel investment decision management, hotel revenue management, management information system, smart tourism application and practice, metrological software application, tourism big data analysis and application, etc.

Employment orientations: high-star-rated hotels of international brands, high-grade lodging industry organizations, high-grade catering industry organizations, tourism enterprise management consultancies, relevant online tourism platforms and new business forms of tourism, etc.
